2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Follows Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined direction.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to address community desires.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

His leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him in the coming days. We are all excited to continue observing the evolution of the game in the months to follow.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. Then, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, stakes, and tests that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The option is up to you."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as production advances.
